Off-Season 2282 (Charlotte) - It is not often that a safety gets the headlines or the limelight, but this reporter is correcting that today.

John Clancy, who has been one of the best in the franchise's history, has decided to retire after 13 seasons.

This season, Clancy was utilized more in packages after being a starter his entire career, but he still contributed three sacks and was a force as usual.

Clancy leaves Carolina ranking third all time in franchise history in interceptions, first among safeties, and 11th all time in total tackles, with only one safety ahead of him one the list (Kevin Middleton).

Chosen in the 2nd round by then Cincinnati in the 2270 draft, Clancy proved to be one of the best 2nd round picks the franchise ever had, and that's not just because they already seem to blow their second round picks.

All in all, John Clancy is one of this franchise's all time greats, and he is going to be missed on game day.
