Panthers acquired twin LBs at the deadline

Off-Season 2305 (Charlotte) - It's like a buddy cop show. One is top of the class, the other has been fired three times.

The duo of LBs known as 'Mac and Mac', Darrin McCoy and Cory McDonald, were acquired by the Carolina Panthers from the Minnesota Vikings on deadline night as the club went from sellers to buyers suddenly when their attempt at selling out fell short.

Darrin McCoy, taken with the second pick of the 2301 draft, has a good shot to be a starter at middle linebacker, while Cory McDonald just hopes to make the team and not get cut for the fourth time. With a lot of young linebackers just drafted, he faces a bit of a battle.

The biggest acquisition of the night may be DE Shawn Nelson, a four time defensive MVP. Nelson, who can trace is lineage back to a Major Anthony Nelson, a major in the U.S. Air Force and one of that country's early astronauts, has already announced this is his last season, and he likes spending it with on a team that he thinks can win something.

The Panthers just hope he can bring that kind of magic to the team.
