Kidder Looks to Impress

Rookie WR Wilber Kidder looks to impress the coaching staff
By "Donald De Line"

Off-Season 2102 (Washington) - First round picks always carry with them an expectation to produce quickly and WR Wilber 'The Kid' Kidder is no exception. With the lack of depth the Redskins had at WR it was a no brainer that they would draft a WR but it was a matter of where. GM Daniel Weimann said that 'Sitting with the 16th pick in the first round we felt that we had to take the best player available that would also fill a need and with the choice of any WR we wanted we had to take him at that point'

Redskins fans however were unhappy with the pick as many in the Media such as the late Mel Kiper's son Joe Kiper ripped the selection publicly saying Kidder was lazy and had no business being a first round pick. In response Weimann did not have much to say, 'We dont have to defend our pick against the opinion of someone who has no front office experience, we had him as the number one wide receiver on the board and we took him.' As far as being lazy goes strength and conditioning coach Richard Rouse commented, 'Many rookies come into the league a little out of shape, they all have to get into pro shape which is much different from the college level and Kidder is no different.'

Kidder probably will not start this season but management is looking for him to be a key special teams contributor as well as a quality 4th option in the wide open west coast offense. Kidder himself just wants to contribute in anyway he can, in a recent interview at the rookie mini camp he said 'I would love to start but I am just looking to contribute in anyway I can, and if that happens to be on special teams then so be it.' If that attitude rubs off on this young core of players the Redskins could be in a bright future.
