Ravens Franchise Third-Year Quarterback

Off-Season 2115 (Baltimore, MD) - The Baltimore Ravens have place a Franchise Player tag on third-year quarterback Donnell Belfatto. The move guarantees Belfatto $8 million per year for the remainder of his career.

'I want to thank the Ravens organization,' stated the obviously-happy signal caller. 'They showed a lot of faith in me coming out of college, given me every opportunity imaginable, and haven't wavered in their belief that I can lead this team. I'm committed to improving my play even more and bringing a title back to this town.'

Belfatto was the fourth overall selection in the 2112 draft and given the starting job immediately. In three seasons, he's completed 58% of his passes for 9,356 yards, tossed 53 touchdowns and 35 interceptions, 18 of which were in his rookie campaign. While his career passer rating is nearing 80, his last two seasons have averaged 90.

Perhaps even more impressively, Belfatto has led the young Ravens to an AFC West title and two consecutive AFC Championship games, losing both times to Sunby Cup Champion Oakland.

Some Baltimore area fans were calling for backup Griffin Hinnant to be installed as the starter after Belfatto's three fumble performance in last year's AFC Championship game. Two of the fumbles were returned for Oakland touchdowns and provided the margin of victory. To settle the matter, Baltimore traded Hinnant to Carolina during the off-season.

'We are moving forward, and Donnell will continue to lead this team,' proclaimed GM Mark Thul. 'Everyone needs to remember just how young he is. He'll learn how to protect the ball better as his entire game continues to grow. He'd be extremely difficult to replace, so we're lucky to have him locked in for the long term.'
