Vikings Ax Assistant GM

Muszynski reportly fall guy for front office gaffe that cost team home game in playoffs

Off-Season 2116 (Minneapolis, MN) - Minnesota Assistant GM Jeff Muszynski was officially fired this afternoon a day after the Sundby Cup was won by the Green Bay Packers. GM Lou Lombardo stated in a written press release that Muszynski was let go for a 'blatant misjudgement that cost the franchise dearly this season'. It appears that Muszynski is taking the heat for the paperwork snafu that cost the Vikings home field advantage in the NFC Championship game against rival Green Bay.

Earlier in the year the Vikings were required to schedule open calendar days and submit it to stadium management. The stadium then booked events around this list designed to avoid conflicts during the year. Unfortunately, the list the Vikings submitted left last Sunday as an open day and that turned out to be the day of the NFC Championship game. With three sold-out concerts on the American Idol 114 Tour scheduled in the stadium that weekend, the league had no choice but to move the NFC Championship game to Green Bay; a game the Vikings lost badly 29-9.

An unnamed team source has already stated that he knows Muszynski had nothing to do with the scheduling conflict and it was obvious this was another power struggle between Lombardo and a young up-and-coming executive in the organization. Several years ago Lombardo dumped then AGM Mark Thul under similarly crazy circumstances. Thul is now the GM in Baltimore and has won two of the last three GM of the year awards. There are rumors that Muszynski has already been contacted by another team in the league to come on board.

It's another bad loss for the Vikings in a season full of them.
