2119 SWA Awards: Carolina QB Claims Bing Bennett MVP, Ricotta Reclaims Mauer

Playoffs 2119 (Tempe, AZ) - The Sports Writers Association announced their 2119 Regular Season Awards last night after a couple season hiatus and all of the stars were in attendance.

Carolina Panthers’ QB Griffin Hinnant was named the 2119 Bing Bennett MVP Award winner, beating out Buffalo Bills’ QB Loren Rembert by a landslide. He was the only player to be named on all seven ballots. Hinnant helped lead the Panthers to a 10-4 record and a playoff berth after completing 290 of 469 passes for 3,437yds, 28 TD’s and 6 INT’s. His rating of 98.7 led the league.

In an interesting voting anomaly, Washington Redskins’ CB Gary Bennett was given the Tim Arkwright Rookie of the Year Award even though he received only one 1st place vote. Buoyed by the strength of his five second place votes, and the fact that he was named on the most ballots (6), Bennett was able to beat out Chicago Bears’ WR Harry Sutton by one point. Bennett finished the season with 3 INT’s and 58 tackles.

Green Bay Packers’ GM Todd Ricotta won his 2nd Jim Maurer GM of the Year Award in the last four years after guiding his team to an NFC best 13-1 record and their 3rd NFC West Division title in the same span. This is somewhat of a recognition resurgence for Ricotta, since prior to winning the previous award, his last one came in 2170. But within that time period, he was runner-up eight times.

Congratulations to all of the winners.
