Carolina gets more defensive

Panthers have two defenders now as franchise players

Off-Season 2150 (Charlotte) - The Carolina Panthers made two announcements today that netted them two franchise players after having none last season.

The first announcement had 2147 1st overall draft pick DT Matt McDonald named as a franchise player, earning him an annual salary of $8 million for the rest of his career.

'The last three seasons have proved what we originally thought in that draft room back in '47,' Panthers GM 'Trader' Lee Remley said at the press conference announcing the signing. 'That Matt McDonald was the best player in the draft and a guy we could build our new defense around.'

The other announcement was the acquisition of another franchise player, LB Owen Buchholtz in a trade from the division rival Minnesota Vikings.

'Owen has burned us enough over the years,' Remley joked after announcing the trade. 'It's time to have him on our side from now on. His experience and leadership in a class organization will help us in our efforts to reach the top again here.'

The two moves help solidify a defense which has become more and more stout as the young nucleus gains experience.

The question is, will it be enough to unseat the Sundby Cup three-peat Green Bay Packers? We shall see.
