Deal Near Done: Sources Say

Commissioner Lewis reportedly has accepted the players latest counter-offer
By "Irv Moniker"

Pre-Season 2152 (Philadelphia) - 'I have no comment nor will I have any comment until we have a deal signed by all parties,' scoffed USAFL Commissioner Andrew Lewis as he exited the exclusive Four Palms mid-town restaurant shortly after the Philadelphia Business Men's Annual Mid-Summer Charity Fundraiser.

The USAFLPA's strike of 2152 took the league by surprise, our league front office sources say, and is primarily the reason for the long delay in resolving their differences. Lewis is reported to have kept last evening's meeting running until well into the wee-hours of the morning, pleading with the players to accept the league's latest offer or deal with the consequences of the USAFL shutting down for good.

Many USAFLPA executives have gone on the record saying that they think Commissioner Lewis is bluffing - and that there is no way he'd throw away the tremendous history of the league just for a few mere dollars and cents.

The two parties will be meeting throughout the day today - and if there is an agreement, a press-conference will be held at the Seven Willows Conference Hall in Center City.

Lewis has served on the PBMAMSC's board of directors for several years now and has raised over 3 billion dollars for low-mid-range income families in the south-eastern districts of North Philadelphia's western townships. He is rumored to be stepping down from the post to focus on future league integration with the city's plans for revitalization of their run-down industrial waterfront properties along the Delaware River - which is reported to include a new stadium for the Philadelphia Eagles, along with additional practice facilities and medical treatment operational centers for their players. The issue is due to go before a city-wide referendum in the upcoming election.
