Eagles Very Aggressive Offseason

Pre-Season 2192 (Philadelphia) - Many fans have written this reporter asking what were the Eagles thinking with each move they made. They began the offseason looking like a team wanting to rebuild and then looked like a team trying to get to the promised land but made cuts like a team about to rebuild.

Does Eagles management have an identity crisis? Here were the moves they made.

They traded a 2194 2nd, and 3rd round pick for a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round pick in the 2192 draft which was considered a good move by the experts. They drafted FB Mack Coffey, LB Bryn White, and S Mike Wilkerson with those three picks to go along with their other picks G Brian Dukes, DT Shannon Kraft, and QB Justin Hill.

Fans seemed to like the draft but may not see the results of it for 5 years. Most of the deals the Eagles made were either the new GM trying to build the team in his own image or just building to set things up for the future.

The big shocker was when the Eagles traded all pro HB Charles Hicks to the Bengals for a 2194 1st round pick. Fans weren't happy saying it might as well be the 1st pick in the 2nd round now.

That wasn't the only deal the Bengals and Eagles agreed to though. Eagles sent over star DT Darryl Blount for a Bengals 2nd round pick. Again fans cried foul.

Seeing that season ticket packages went down it appeared as though Eagles GM Lee Patterson tried to redeem himself. Philadelphia sent a 2195 2nd rounder that they got from the Bengals and a 2196 1st round pick to Miami for G Alvin Alexander a 9 year veteran, DT Brad McClure an 8 year veteran, and CB Neil Sanders a 7 year veteran.

The defense looks improved but the strong point in the running game looks much weaker this season. The offensive line is much improved too.

It is really tough to tell what the Eagles are attempting to accomplish in the fans eyes but everyone is hoping that GM Lee Patterson has a plan.

When a team is in the Conference Championship two years in a row it is a hard sell to see a team get rid of their best player.
