Trade Flurry Angers Packer Base

Cheeseheads Again Angry With GM

Pre-Season 2261 (Green Bay, WI) - After two consecutive division titles and losses in the NFC Championship game to Tampa Bay, unrest appears to be growing in the heartland.

'This guy is no good.' screamed an irate Carl Gerbschmidt. 'This team was gonna win a title, and this guy shows up and blows the team up. Now our GM, Mr. Don't-Think-Just-Act, starts acting like this is fantasy football! Eight trades?'

While true that Green Bay did complete eight trades this off-season, it was a drop in the 25-trade USAFL off-season bucket. Still, many Packer fans see a departure from their preferred method of team development.

'We've always just grown our own talent,' explained Gerbschmidt. 'Bringing in seven veterans who each have seven or more years of experience is not a good return on investment. They'll be gone soon, and four young players we've been grooming are gone, including a first-rounder!'

As training camp opened, GM Mark Thul addressed the concerns. 'As usual, Packer fans are over-reacting. Oakland just won back-to-back titles, and we were able to secure a good portion of their offensive line, our weakest area. The other pieces are in place; it's time to amp this up!'

'Over-reacting?' exclaimed Gerbscmidt, 'Listen, this is not the Packer way! Other teams resort to bringing in older players, and other team aren't champions like the Packers. Trading away four young players will come back and haunt us!'

In regards to the players Green Bay lost, Thul assured the fan base that, while they were excellent players and he wished them and their new teams the best, the team's future hasn't been compromised. He pointed to a bevy of young players still on the roster and a large slate of high future draft picks.

'I don't buy it, and I'm sure I'll be proven right,' stated Gerbschmidt. 'I've been an owner since the beginning, and I've seen the best GMs. He's not a good one. He's really a Minnesotan.'

(On a real note, if you want to follow Carl Gerbschmidt on Twitter, you can @TheRealCarlG. One of his recent posts about Sunday night football stated, 'Disappointed Carrie Underwood didn't include more Packers in her little football opening. But she's typical Hollywood elite. They hate us.' While comical, he's not too far off from actual Packer fans. Enjoy!)
