Drafting In The New Century
Given enough time, trends can be found
...
In preparation for the 2010 draft, it
occurred to me that I had limited
resources for the comparison of one
draft to another. To compensate for my
lack of experience, I started to develop
a spreadsheet that would statistically
compare draft classes.
Using the formula for rating players
that is given on the Rookies page of
FAQ, I compared all the players from the
draft classes of 2100 to 2110; however,
it occurred to me that it’s useless to
compare the entire draft class of each
position, as the majority of players
never get drafted at all.
Todd Ricotta provided me with the data
of how many of each position was drafted
from that draft until now. Using that
information, I devised that the average
number of players that are drafted in
each position. By comparing the same
number of top players from each position
in each draft, I could determine the
relative strength of each year’s draft.
Note that these comparisons only deal on
a rookie ratings level. While history
has shown some highly touted players to
be busts, this statistical analysis
doesn’t take that into account. It
merely looks at raw rookie data.
Without further ado, here is a list of
the results that notes the top players
of that year’s positional draft pool.

It
isn't even close. This draft
rocked.
Bolstered by defensive line and
tight ends.
Both lines hallmarked this draft.
An anomaly - the kickers boosted
this draft class.
The ultimate quarterback draft.
Smack dab in the middle of the
past eleven drafts. |
